IFSW Statement on Discrimination in Uganda and Other Countries Discriminating Against LGBT People | IFSW

Recognising the inherent dignity and worth of every person being able to freely express who they love is a fundamental human right. The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) expresses solidarity with the citizens of all countries who are struggling to have their rights recognised.

IFSW is vehemently opposed to any legislation in any nation which proposes to discriminate and penalizes the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) people.  Consequently IFSW is opposed to the “Anti-Homosexuality Bill” being proposed in the Parliament of Uganda and stands in opposition to any such legislation in any other country.

We call upon the Ugandan government and all other countries to honour their commitments to national and international obligations to support human rights including LGBT people.

Tema: A intervenção do Serviço Social em Oncologia

Título: O Serviço Social em Oncologia Pediátrica

Na infância, o cancro é considerado raro. Ainda assim, quer nos EUA, quer no Reino Unido, surge como a primeira causa de morte infantil relacionada com a saúde, em crianças com idade igual ou superior a um ano de vida. O mesmo se passa em Portugal, onde são diagnosticados cerca de 300 novos casos de cancro pediátrico, por ano, na faixa etária dos 0-18 anos.

O impacto do cancro é sentido pela criança, pela sua família e por todos os sistemas que os envolvem. Ou seja, acontecem mudanças significativas e bruscas na rotina e nos planos destes. É sobre essas mudanças que se desenha a intervenção social, tentando atenuar os seus efeitos negativos.

A intervenção do Assistente Social é planeada com a equipa de Oncologia Pediátrica, e tem um papel singular na manutenção do equilíbrio psicossocial da criança e da família. Cabe ao AS acolher, acompanhar e orientar a criança e a família, informando-as dos seus direitos e recursos; avaliar a estrutura e a organização familiar para intervir sobre os problemas sociais existentes ou que possam surgir e, acima de tudo, promover a qualidade de vida da criança e a harmonia familiar, independentemente do prognóstico clínico.
